18th/19th Century Indo-Persian Katar Punch Dagger in Presentation Case

18th/19th Century Indo-Persian Katar Punch Dagger in Presentation Case

This original Indo-Persian Katar push dagger dates to the 18th or 19th century and is housed in a fitted oval glass-top presentation case. The piece features the iconic H-shaped grip bars and broad, double-edged blade designed for armor-piercing thrusts. Retaining its traditional form, the dagger shows age-consistent patina while maintaining sharp structural definition and integrity across the grip and blade.

The Katar was a quintessential symbol of the warrior classes throughout the Indian subcontinent and Persia, valued both for its battlefield effectiveness and symbolic association with courage and nobility. These weapons were carried by elite guards, nobles, and Rajput warriors, and were often used in ceremonial contexts as well. Many were custom-forged and decorated to reflect the owner’s status.

This example, with its museum-style presentation and preserved form, offers a direct link to the martial traditions of the Mughal and Indo-Persian eras. A visually impressive and historically meaningful addition to any edged weapons or antique arms collection available now!
